Raw Pu’er 生普

  1. Appearance
Before brewing, the colour of dry tea leaves is green grey, dark green with white fluff or yellow green (it depends on the age).
After brewing, the tea soups become light green or amber. The tea leaf shape is big and straight. Raw pu’er is in most cases compressed in different shapes.

  1. Taste
The taste is can be really different depending on “new” or “old” types. New raw tea sometimes smells smoky and tastes natural bitter. After a few years the bitterness disappears, and the tea becomes fragrant and sweet. Old type means aged. They can be stored decades and or longer in the proper environment. The taste changes over time, the aroma becomes stronger.

  1. Features
Raw pu’er is not fermented(0%) at first, there is a secondary fermentation (0%-20%). During the 2nd fermentation, the tea already has it final shape (for example compressed in a pancake).  Fresh tea leaves are sun dried, so they keep their natural substances.
